ALEX THOMSON'S PROFILE
Alex Thomson is one of Britain's most talented sailors - holder of two world records, he is the youngest skipper ever to win a round the world race.
Alex launched onto the solo ocean racing scene with a bang, breaking the world distance record in 2003. His first two solo round the world record attempts were met with frustration when structural failure of his last yacht forced him to retire early from the Vendee Globe 2004 and Velux 5 Oceans race 2006. He has now overcome the treacherous seas of the Southern Ocean by securing a 2nd place podium finish in the Barcelona World Race in February this year.
