The new Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series sees the world’s best triathletes compete in iconic cities around the globe for World Championship points, with the World Champion being crowned at the Grand Final in Australia.
Competitors and spectators in London will have the opportunity to see and experience one of London's 2012 Olympic Venues.
London Mayor Boris Johnson said: "Bringing the ITU World Championship Series to London is an excellent idea and an opportunity to establish Hyde Park as one of our key Olympic venues. The World Championship Series will showcase
electrifying sporting action against an unrivalled central London backdrop. Londoners and visitors alike will see some of the world´s best athletes compete in the heart of London."
The 2009 event will see the Men's and Women's elite races on the 15th August broadcast live across the globe, and an Age Group triathlon event open to the public on the 16th August.
This prestigious event consists of a swim course in the Seprentine and the cycle and run courses in and around Hyde Park, the largest of the Royal Parks.
2009 is the first year of the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship London, and will grow in scale as we move towards 2012.
