Help for Heroes have raised 100 million [10/06/2011]
Paris, France - Today, at 5.30pm, 10June, 264 Big Battlefield Bike Ride cyclists,
including Bryn Parry OBE and Emma Parry OBE, along with a team of wounded
cyclists from the UK and the USA, crossed the finish line at the Eiffel Tower and
celebrated the incredible news that the charity had raised a phenomenal £100
million since its conception in 2007.
Statement from Bryn Parry OBE, CEO of Help for Heroes:
“On 12th July 2007, Emma first suggested that ‘we do something to help the
wounded’ and we planned to do a bike ride to raise £10k. A few days later, after
meeting General Sir Richard Dannatt, who suggested that Headley Court needed a
swimming pool, we raised our sights to £500k. In early August we went to Selly Oak
hospital, met some extraordinary blokes, realized that our lives had changed forever
and raised the target to £5m. It seemed to be an almost impossible task and when
we launched on 1st October 2007, it was a very daunting prospect indeed.
