The 16-25 September 2016 marks a unique date in the boating calendar, the 48th Southampton Boat Show. The festival of boating, will host over 131 boat debuts; close to 600 exhibiting brands – 27 of which are new for 2016 and hundreds of boats on display, including 330 on the Show’s stunning Marina, powered by Kube, which is one of Europe’s largest purpose-built marinas with over 2km of pontoons.
Throughout the Show, visitors can marvel at boats ranging from £300 Stand Up Paddleboards to aspirational multi-million pound luxury yachts. The wide variety of attractions this year include the Artemis tall ship; The Festival Stage, powered by Datatag and the COMPASS scheme, which will feature fashion shows and live music; the Royal Navy Parachute Display Team; spectacular air displays from two Spitfire & Hurricane aircrafts and Marlin’s Charity Mission.
There are plenty of ways to get out on the water at the Show with On The Water’s Get Afloat – a way for 8-16 year olds to learn about boating and watersports for free; On The Water’s Try-a-Boat – which gives visitors unique experiences onboard the latest RIBs and luxury yachts; Bumper Boats, sponsored by Sunseeker in support of Macmillan Cancer Trust – suitable for children aged 3-13; Wet Wheels - a 9m Cheetah Catamaran that has been specially adapted for wheelchair access; the Suzuki RIB Experience which offers a fantastic chance to get out on the water in a 7.8m RIB; the Global Challenges Sailing Experience on board a 72ft Round the World Ocean Race Yacht and the luxurious Platinum Experience ticket package which includes a trip out on a luxury motor yacht.
Special events during the 10-day event include Careers Day when the Show will be putting on activities to promote marine careers and apprenticeships; Ladies Day, sponsored by Irwin Mitchell, to celebrate the women leading the world of sailing and working in the marine industry; a Guinness World Record Attempt which will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the ‘Largest human image of a boat’; the Battle of the Classes Pursuit Race and Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship National Final.
