VELUX GOES FORWARD WITH THE ULTIMATE SOLO CHALLENGE
VELUX Group re-signs as title sponsor of the VELUX 5 OCEANS in 2010
Clipper Ventures PLC (UK) today announced that the VELUX Group (Denmark) has re-signed as
title sponsor of the next VELUX 5 OCEANS race, due to take place in 2010-11.
VELUX began their relationship with the solo round the world yacht race in September 2005 as
title sponsor of the last edition, which started and finished in Bilbao (Basque Country, Spain)
between October 2006 and May 2007. Considered ‘The Ultimate Solo Challenge’, the VELUX 5
OCEANS celebrated its 25th Anniversary this year and is the most established and longest
single-handed yacht race in the world.

window and design company, was recognised for its success in supporting the 5 OCEANS event,
the classic solo round the world yacht race organised by Clipper Ventures PLC. Billed as ‘The
Ultimate Solo Challenge’, Clipper Ventures delivered a winning platform for VELUX, creating
over €66 million of global media value for their sponsor.

Historic French port to welcome the original solo race around the world
Start Date: October 17, 2010
Clipper Ventures PLC, organisers of the VELUX 5 OCEANS yacht race, are
pleased to confirm that the city of La Rochelle (France) will host the start and
finish of the original solo ocean race around the world. The news comes two
years ahead of the official start date now confirmed as October 17, 2010,
which will see The Ultimate Solo Challenge set off from La Rochelle before
returning to the historic maritime city in May 2011.
