CAUCHEMAR POUR GUTEK A L'APPROCHE DU CAP HORN Le skipper polonais dévoile des problèmes de quille dans le troisième sprint de la VELUX 5 OCEANS
Zbigniew 'Gutek' Gutkowski s'apprête à franchir aujourd'hui le Cap Horn dans des circonstances particulièrement stressantes à bord de son Eco 60 Operon Racing. Le skipper polonais a confié à l'organisation qu'il entendait d'inquiétants bruits sourds à l'intérieur son bateau alors qu'il dévalait d'immenses vagues à l'approche du Cap Horn. Après une inspection minutieuse, Gutek a constaté avec horreur que les fixations reliant la quille à Operon Racing bougeaient...

BRAD VAN LIEW, PREMIER AU CAP HORN Le skipper américain quitte les Mers du Sud et met le cap sur Punta del Este
A 43 ans, Brad Van Liew a franchi le Cap Horn pour la troisième fois de sa carrière lundi soir à 22h30 UTC. Il entre ainsi dans l'histoire en devenant le premier Américain à cumuler trois passages en solitaire devant ce cap mythique.
Quinze jours après le départ de la troisième étape de la VELUX 5 OCEANS à Wellington en Nouvelle-Zélande, Brad est le premier concurrent à quitter le Pacifique Sud pour entamer sa remontée de l'Atlantique, direction Punta del Este en Uruguay, 1300 milles devant son étrave...

BRAD VAN LIEW OKRĄŻA HORN PO RAZ TRZECI
Amerykanin już na prostej do Punta del Este. Płynący na drugiej pozycji Polak Zbigniew „Gutek” Gutkowski na Operon Racing był dziś rano zaledwie 345 mil od Przylądka Horn.
Płynący w regatach VELUX 5 OCEANS sternik Brad Van Liew ominął właśnie przylądek Horn po raz trzeci w swojej karierze i po raz trzeci dokonał tego samotnie. 43-letni weteran regat oceanicznych jest jedynym Amerykaninem w historii, który tego dokonał.
Cape Horn znany z ekstremalnych warunków pogodowych i tym razem początkowo nie szczędził żeglarzowi wielkich fal i sztormowych wiatrów. Ale w miarę zbliżania się do złowrogiej skały, około godziny 22.30 UTC (23.30 czasu polskiego) wczoraj w nocy wiatr zelżał i fale się uspokoiły pozwalając Bradowi Van Liew obejrzeć słynny przylądek...

The current leg frontrunner and overall race leader is now heading out of the Southern Ocean for the first time in almost three months. Brad has around 1,300 nautical miles to sail through the South Atlantic to Punta...

FIRST OF VELUX 5 OCEANS FLEET DUE TO ROUND CAPE HORN TODAY
Brad Van Liew set to round famous landmark for historic third time
THE leading yacht in the third sprint of the VELUX 5 OCEANS is expected to round Cape Horn
today. American ocean racer Brad Van Liew was just 130 nautical miles from the famous
landmark at 1200 UTC.
It will be the third time Brad, 43, has raced round Cape Horn solo, one of only a handful of
sailors and the first American ever to achieve the feat....

Brad Van Liew powinien dziś minąć słynną skałę po raz trzeci w swojej karierze żeglarskiej.
Według raportu pozycji o godzinie 12.00 UTC Amerykanin na pokładzie Le Pingouin był
zaledwie 130 mil od słynnego przylądka.
Płynący na drugim miejscu Zbigniew Gutkowski’s (Operon Racing) znajduje się 396 mil za nim
i prawdopodobnie okrąży Horn dobę później.....

VELUX 5 OCEANS FLEET EXPECTED TO ROUND CAPE HORN WITHIN A
WEEK
Four Eco 60s posting fast times on sprint three to Punta del Este
THE VELUX 5 OCEANS fleet continue to make quick progress through the Southern Ocean
bound for the ultimate landfall for sailors: Cape Horn. After 13 days at sea the fleet have already
covered more than 3,000 nautical miles as they sprint towards Punta del Este in Uruguay.
Out in front by just over 200 nautical miles is overall race leader and winner of the first two
sprints Brad Van Liew on Le Pingouin.

Dziś mija dwunasta doba trzeciego etapu regat VELUX 5 OCEANS z Wellington do Punta
del Este. Pierwszych trzech zawodników – Amerykanin, Polak i Kanadyjczyk minęli już
strefę punktowanego pomiaru prędkości. Brytyjczyk podarł główny żagiel i ma kłopoty.
Obchodzący dziś imieniny Zbigniew „Gutek” Gutkowski (Operon Racing) wciąż żegluje na
doskonałej drugiej pozycji, tracąc do lidera stawki, Brada Van Liewa (Le Pingouin) ok.

LE MALHEUR DES UNS… ET LE BONHEUR DES AUTRES
Des avaries ralentissent Hatfield et CSM, tandis que le premier creuse
l'écart.
La flotte de la VELUX 5 OCEANS, qui était restée groupée depuis le départ de Wellington le 6
février dernier, commence à s'étaler dans cette deuxième moitié du Pacifique. Le leader, Brad
Van Liew compte désormais plus de 200 milles d'avance sur ses poursuivants, alors que le
dernier, Chris Stanmore-Major, victime d'une grand-voile déchirée, voit la flotte s'échapper.

Ripped mainsail hampers chase of race frontrunners
CHRIS Stanmore-Major has been forced to carry out vital repairs to his yacht Spartan in the
middle of the Southern Ocean after a 2.5-metre rip developed in his mainsail. The 33-year-old
from Cowes, UK, had been chasing the leading pack in the third sprint of the VELUX 5
OCEANS solo round the world yacht race when disaster struck.
